Biographical Record
Cesar Gemayel was born in Ain el Kharroube in Mount Lebanon and studied painting under Khalil Saleeby in Beirut before traveling to Paris to complete his academic training. In 1943, alongside Alexis Boutros, he co-founded the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA), the first national fine arts academy in Lebanon.
Gemayel's paintings were renowned for their warm, sensuous color harmonies, fluid brushwork, and romantic atmospheric light, depicting rural village scenes, dynamic Lebanese horse riders, still lifes, and female portraits. His pedagogical leadership trained the first generation of independent Lebanese modern artists.
