Biographical Record
Carlos Enrique José Pellegrini was born on October 11, 1846, in Buenos Aires, the son of Savoyard-Italian engineer Charles Henri Pellegrini and an English mother. After serving in the Paraguayan War, he completed his law degree and served as Minister of War and Vice President.
When the catastrophic 1890 financial crash and Revolution of the Park forced President Juárez Celman's resignation, Pellegrini assumed the presidency with firm resolve.
