Carlos Alberto Torres

Carlos Alberto Torres (1944–2016) revolutionized the right-back position at Fluminense and Santos, combining defensive authority with explosive attacking runs down the wing alongside Pele. Appointed national team captain at twenty-five, his tactical leadership marshaled Brazil's dazzling constellation of stars.

On June 21, 1970, at Mexico City's Estadio Azteca, Carlos Alberto capped off an eight-player passing sequence by sprinting into the box and smashing Pele's layoff into the corner of the net, sealing a 4-1 victory over Italy. He lifted the Jules Rimet Trophy for Brazil's third permanent triumph.
