Rembrandt's most brilliant student and mentor of Vermeer whose exquisite, luminous trompe-l'œil masterpiece 'The Goldfinch' survived the tragic Delft explosion of 1654.

Biographical Record

Carel Fabritius (1622–1654 CE) was the star pupil in Rembrandt's Amsterdam studio before moving to Delft, breaking away from his master's dark backgrounds to pioneer luminous light.

Tragically killed at age thirty-two when the Delft gunpowder magazine exploded, destroying most of his oeuvre, his surviving gems like The Goldfinch and A View in Delft inspired generations.
