Biographical Record

Bronisław Malinowski (1951–1981) was a Polish distance running hero who dominated the 3,000-meter steeplechase throughout the 1970s. Known for his tactical brilliance and metronomic barrier clearance, Malinowski won Olympic silver in Montreal 1976 behind Sweden's Anders Gärderud in a world-record race.

At the 1980 Moscow Olympics, he ran down Tanzania's runaway front-runner Filbert Bayi in an unforgettable final lap to claim the Olympic gold medal. Malinowski was killed in a car accident on a bridge in Grudziądz in 1981 at just 30 years of age.
