Biographical Record

Boniface (c. 675–754 CE), born Winfrid in Devon, answered the papal call to evangelize the Germanic tribes east of the Rhine.

In 723, he dramatically cut down Donar's sacred pagan oak in Hesse without retribution from Thor, catalyzing mass conversions and creating organized dioceses and Fulda Abbey across Germany.
