Biographical Record
The daughter of Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto (1953–2007) was educated at Radcliffe College, Harvard and Oxford, where she was elected president of the Oxford Union. Following her father's execution under General Zia-ul-Haq, she endured years of imprisonment and house arrest, emerging as the leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
In 1988, following Zia's death, she won the general election at thirty-five, becoming prime minister. Returning from self-imposed exile in October 2007 to lead the democratic movement against General Pervez Musharraf, she was assassinated in Rawalpindi after addressing an election rally.
