Archival Overview

Prophet-Founder of the Bahá'í Faith. Endured forty years of imprisonment and exile across the Ottoman Empire while writing the Kitab-i-Aqdas and proclaiming the organic unity of the human race and world peace.

Biographical Record

Born into noble Persian aristocracy, Bahá'u'lláh sacrificed royal rank to champion the cause of the Báb. While chained in the subterranean dungeon of the Síyáh-Chál in Tehran in 1852, he received the divine calling of his prophetic mission.

Banished consecutively to Baghdad, Constantinople, Adrianople, and the penal fortress of Acre, he penned tablets to Queen Victoria, Napoleon III, and world emperors calling for collective security, reduction of armaments, compulsory education, and universal language.
