Biographical Record

Atisha (982–1054 CE) studied in Sumatra under Dharmakirti of Golden Isles before returning to become the foremost scholar of Buddhist India at Vikramashila.

Invited by King Yeshe-Ö of Guge, he crossed the Himalayas to reform corrupted tantric practices, authoring Bodhipathapradipa which established the Lamrim (Graduated Path) tradition taken up by Tsongkhapa.
