Biographical Record
Ashfaqulla Khan was born in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and was an accomplished Urdu poet who wrote under the pen name 'Hasrat'. He formed an unbreakable brotherhood with fellow revolutionary Ram Prasad Bismil, dedicating his life to the liberation of India through the HRA.
Khan played a central role in the Kakori train action in 1925 to fund the revolutionary struggle. When British prosecutors attempted to persuade him to testify against his Hindu comrades in exchange for pardon, Khan vehemently refused. He walked to the gallows in Faizabad Jail kissing the noose.
