Biographical Record
Born in Stagira in northern Greece, Aristotle studied under Plato for twenty years before becoming tutor to Alexander the Great. In 335 BCE, he established his own school, the Lyceum, in Athens, where he lectured while walking (the Peripatetic school).
His empirical method emphasized rigorous observation and categorization of the natural world, forming the scientific framework that underpinned Mediterranean, Arab-Islamic, and European thought for nearly two millennia.
