Annibale Carracci (1560–1609 CE), together with his brother Agostino and cousin Ludovico, rescued Italian art from Mannerist decadence by returning to direct life-drawing.

Summoned to Rome by Cardinal Odoardo Farnese, he spent seven years painting the Galleria Farnese vault, integrating illusionistic framed canvases (quadri riportati), muscular gods, and joyful mythological vitality.
