Archival Overview
Master architect and sage to Pharaoh Amenhotep III who designed the Colossi of Memnon and the Luxor Temple complex, worshipped for a millennium as a patron god of medicine and wisdom.
Biographical Record
Born in the Nile Delta city of Athribis, Amenhotep son of Hapu rose through the royal scribal administration to become Chief of All Works for Pharaoh Amenhotep III during the golden twilight of the Eighteenth Dynasty. He engineered the extraction, transport, and erection of the monumental 700-ton quartz Colossi of Memnon.
Granted the unprecedented royal honor of a funerary temple in Western Thebes alongside pharaohs, his medical wisdom and philosophical proverbs led to his full deification in the Ptolemaic era alongside Imhotep, worshipped as a miraculous healer at Deir el-Bahari.
