Archival Overview
Visionary theoretical physicist dubbed the 'Einstein of the Arabs', DSc graduate from King's College London whose pioneering research on quantum mechanics, the Stark effect, and mass-energy conversion was praised by Albert Einstein.
Biographical Record
Born in Damietta, Aly Moustafa Mosharafa graduated top of his class before earning his PhD and DSc from King's College London in 1924, becoming one of the youngest scientists in the world to attain this distinction. In 1926, he was appointed Egypt's first professor of applied mathematics.
As Dean of the Faculty of Science at Cairo University, he pioneered research into quantum radiation, unified field theories, and wave mechanics, collaborating directly with Albert Einstein and Louis de Broglie. Upon Mosharafa's sudden death in 1950, Einstein eulogized him publicly: 'I cannot believe that Mosharafa is dead; he lives on through his atomic contributions.'
