Fourth Husainid Bey of Tunis whose prosperous 23-year reign restored peace across Tunisia following the civil wars, fortified coastal ports, and patronized religious colleges in Tunis and Kairouan.
Biographical Record
Brother of Mohamed Rachid Bey and son of Husain I, Ali II Bey ascended the throne of Tunis in 1759. His administration marked a welcome era of domestic tranquility, commercial revival, and agricultural stability across the Regency.
He concluded profitable commercial treaties with Venice, France, and Britain, restored the coastal defenses of La Goulette and Bizerte, and endowed madrasas and public fountains across the Medina of Tunis. He governed with wise restraint until his peaceful passing in 1782, succeeded by his son Hammuda Pasha.
