Biographical Record

Born in Tunis to a cultured family of Persian-Abbasid origin, Ali Ben Ziyad al-Tarabulsi al-Tunisi journeyed to the Hijaz and Iraq, becoming one of the most brilliant early disciples of Imam Malik. He brought the first authenticated manuscript copy of the *Muwatta* across the Mediterranean to Tunis.

In Tunis, his circle at the Zitouna Mosque became the cradle of North African Maliki jurisprudence, instructing future judicial giants including Imam Sahnun and Asad ibn al-Furat. He served as the primary legal and spiritual advisor to early Abbasid governors in Ifriqiya.
