Biographical Record
Ali Ali-Khodja was born in the Casbah of Algiers into a prominent intellectual family and studied under master miniaturists Omar and Mohammed Racim. Moving beyond classical realism, he developed a sublime semi-abstract style where geometric architectural rhythms of the Casbah blended with delicate decorative arabesques.
From 1962 to his retirement, Ali-Khodja taught decorative arts and painting at the National Superior School of Fine Arts (ENSBA) in Algiers, serving as its director and mentoring generations of contemporary Algerian visual artists.
