Biographical Record

Ali al-Rida (766–818 CE) was summoned from Medina to Khorasan by Abbasid Caliph al-Ma'mun, who appointed him heir apparent to heal political fractures between Abbasids and Alids.

In Khorasan, al-Ma'mun organized famous theological debates pitting Imam Reza against Jewish, Christian, Zoroastrian, and Buddhist scholars, in which the Imam demonstrated peerless eloquence.
