Biographical Record
Alexander Suvorov (1730–1800) built his military philosophy on three core principles: eyeball assessment (speed), quick action, and push (cold steel). Living in common soldier's quarters, he captured the reputedly impregnable Ottoman fortress of Izmail in 1790.
During the Italian and Swiss expedition of 1799, at age sixty-nine, he defeated revolutionary French armies across northern Italy, and surrounded in the Swiss Alps, pulled off the heroic fighting crossing of the Panix Pass through freezing snowdrifts.
