Biographical Record

Albrecht von Wallenstein (1583–1634) was the most formidable organizational titan of the Thirty Years' War. Offering Emperor Ferdinand II an army raised, equipped, and provisioned entirely through his own private credit and systematic military taxation (contributions), he dominated central European battlegrounds.

He defeated Count Mansfeld at Dessau Bridge (1626) and thwarted Gustavus Adolphus at the Alte Veste (1632). His vast wealth, astrological consultations, and independent diplomacy made him an object of imperial jealousy, leading to his assassination in Cheb.
