Biographical Record

Alberto Ginastera (1916–1983) graduated from the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires and trained in the United States with Aaron Copland. His career evolved through three phases: Objective Nationalism, Subjective Nationalism, and Neo-Expressionism.

His 1941 ballet 'Estancia' and its exhilarating Malambo finale captured the boundless rhythm of the Argentine pampas and gaucho horsemen. His later operas 'Don Rodrigo' and 'Bomarzo' pioneered serialist and avant-garde techniques on the global stage. He founded the Latin American Center for Advanced Musical Studies (CLAEM).
