Archival Overview
Beloved Jewish-Algerian albino singer from Oran who created the joyous 'Francarabe' genre, combining Andalusian Hawzi with jazz and flamenco.
Biographical Record
Albert Rouimi, universally known by his stage name Blond-Blond on account of his albinism, was born in the bustling seaside city of Oran. Captivated from youth by the vocal artistry of Cheikh Larbi Bensari and Lili Labassi, he developed an extraordinarily rhythmic, humorous, and warm singing style.
Blond-Blond pioneered the hybrid 'Francarabe' musical genre, singing alternating verses in Algerian Arabic and French while accompanying himself on the tar. His performances celebrated the cosmopolitan warmth, street slang, and vibrant nightlife of 1940s Oran, remaining a cherished cultural bridge between Mediterranean communities.
