Al-Khidr (The Verdant One / Sage of Divine Knowledge)

Al-Khidr (meaning 'The Green One' or 'The Verdant One') is one of the most mesmerizing figures in spiritual literature. Regarded by many theologians as a prophet and by mystics as the archetypal spiritual initiator who drank from the Water of Eternal Life, he represents the unfathomable depths of divine mercy and wisdom that transcend exterior human reason.

The Journey with Moses

In Surah Al-Kahf (The Cave), Moses sets out to find a servant of God who possessed knowledge higher than his own. Meeting at the 'junction of the two seas,' Al-Khidr warned Moses: 'Indeed, with me you will never be able to have patience.' During their journey, Khidr performed three bewildering actions: damaging a poor fisherman's boat, taking the life of a young boy, and rebuilding a crumbling wall in a hostile town that refused them food.

Unveiling the Hidden Mercy

Before parting, Khidr unveiled the reality behind each deed: the boat was saved from a tyrannical king seizing ships by force; the boy would have broken his loving parents' faith; and the wall concealed treasure for two pious orphans. Khidr concluded: 'And I did not do it of my own accord. That is the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience.'
