Archival Overview

19th-century Moroccan historian and royal archivist who accompanied Sultan Moulay Hassan I on his famous unification Harkas (expeditions) across Morocco, documenting tribal geography.

Biographical Record

Al-Arbi al-Mashrafi was the official court chronicler and secretary to Sultan Moulay Hassan I. Accompanying the sultan during his arduous military expeditions (Harkas) to the Sous, Tafilalt, and the Rif to maintain national unity against European intrusions, al-Mashrafi maintained precise diaries.

His historical and genealogical compendiums preserve critical data on Moroccan tribal territories, administrative appointments, and traditional military logistical systems during the late pre-colonial era.
