Archival Overview
Revered Moroccan humanitarian pioneer, known affectionately as 'Mama Aïcha', who founded the Association Solidarité Féminine in 1985 to rescue and empower single mothers and abandoned children.
Biographical Record
Trained as a state registered nurse and social worker in Casablanca in the 1960s, Aïcha Chenna witnessed firsthand the crushing social stigma and abandonment suffered by unmarried mothers in Moroccan society. In 1985, defying intense conservative taboos, she founded the *Association Solidarité Féminine* (ASF).
Her organization provided single mothers with vocational training, literacy classes, daycare, and legal assistance to register their children as legitimate citizens. Honored with the prestigious 1-million-dollar Opus Prize in 2009 and the French Legion of Honor, she revolutionized social empathy in modern Morocco.
