Archival Overview
Heroic Pharaoh of Egypt and founder of the Eighteenth Dynasty who liberated the homeland from more than a century of foreign Hyksos occupation, inaugurating Egypt's imperial golden age: the New Kingdom.
Biographical Record
Succeeding his fallen father Seqenenre Tao and brother Kamose, Ahmose completed the war of national liberation in his youth. Laying siege to the Hyksos stronghold of Avaris in the eastern Delta, he expelled the Asiatic invaders beyond the Sinai.
Ahmose reunited Egypt, campaigned into the Levant and Nubia, reopened royal quarries and international trade routes, and restored temple cults across Thebes and Abydos, laying the institutional foundations for the Egyptian Empire.
