Biographical Record

Cheikh Ahmed Zaytouni was the musical beacon of Tetouan and Chefchaouen. Combining deep knowledge of Andalusian poetry with refined violin technique, he trained hundreds of classical musicians at the Tetouan Music Conservatory.

Under his direction, the Tetouan Andalusian Orchestra preserved the distinct northern stylistic variations and flamenco-inflected subtleties that differentiate northern Moroccan performance from the Fez and Rabat schools.
