Archival Overview

Foremost Moroccan historian of the 19th century who served in high administrative posts under Sultan Moulay Hassan I and authored the monumental 9-volume national history Kitab al-Istiqsa.

Biographical Record

A scion of the prestigious Nasiri Sufi order of Tamgroute, Ahmad ibn Khalid al-Nasiri held senior positions in the Moroccan customs and royal administration in Casablanca, Tangier, and Marrakesh during a period of intense European imperial encroachment.

Aware of the urgent need to understand historical causality, he spent decades authoring Kitab al-Istiqsa li-Akhbar Duwal al-Maghrib al-Aqsa (The Research Concerning the Dynasties of Morocco), the grandest, most scientifically documented synthesis of Moroccan history ever written.
