Enlightened third Imam of the Rustamid state in Tahert (Tiaret) whose fifty-year reign marked the golden age of scientific inquiry, trans-Saharan commerce, and religious tolerance in medieval Algeria.
Biographical Record
Aflah ibn Abd al-Wahhab ruled the Ibadi Rustamid Imamate from its cosmopolitan capital at Tahert (near modern Tiaret). A skilled mathematician, astronomer, and poet, he turned Tahert into an intellectual hub dubbed the 'Baghdad of the Maghreb', attracting scholars from Persia, Arabia, and Al-Andalus.
His administration promoted fair taxation, protected trade routes with the Sudan and Mediterranean, and maintained peaceful coexistence among Sunnis, Ibadis, and Christians throughout central North Africa.
