Biographical Record
Adolfo Bioy Casares was born on September 15, 1914, in Buenos Aires into a wealthy landowner family. In 1932, he met Jorge Luis Borges at Villa Ocampo, forming one of the most prolific and celebrated literary partnerships in world history, co-authoring parodic detective stories under the pseudonym H. Bustos Domecq.
In 1940, Bioy published his masterpiece La invención de Morel (The Invention of Morel), a crystalline metaphysical science-fiction novel about a fugitive on an island haunted by holographic recordings, which directly inspired Alain Resnais' classic film Last Year at Marienbad.
