Biographical Record
Abu Said Uthman was one of the most intellectually accomplished sons of the founding Almohad caliph Abd al-Mu'min. Appointed governor of Granada and subsequently Cordoba, he governed with enlightened diplomacy, acting as a crucial patron for philosophers including Ibn Tufayl and the court physicians.
Under his administration, urban fortifications, irrigation channels, and civic academies flourished in al-Andalus before he returned to Marrakech in his later years, advising his nephew Caliph Yaqub al-Mansur.
