Biographical Record
Abu Hammou Moussa II (1323–1389) was born in exile in Nasrid Granada and received an exquisite Andalusian education in literature, governance, and the arts. In 1359, he marched into North Africa, liberated Tlemcen from Marinid Moroccan occupation, and restored the Zayyanid throne.
Abu Hammou transformed Tlemcen into an intellectual magnet, hosting historian Ibn Khaldun (who served as his chamberlain and royal diplomat). A talented poet, Abu Hammou authored the celebrated political and ethical treatise Wasitat al-Suluk (The Mirror of Princes), advising rulers on statecraft, justice, and royal character.
