Biographical Record
Abu al-Hasan Ali al-Lakhmi was educated in Kairouan under the greatest disciples of Ibn Abi Zayd before moving to Sfax, where he established a famous school of jurisprudence that drew students from across the Mediterranean.
His celebrated magnum opus, Al-Tabsira, was renowned for its brilliant independent legal reasoning (Ijtihad) within the Maliki framework, selecting the strongest evidences rather than blind conformity. His majestic mausoleum and mosque outside the medina walls of Sfax remain a primary civic and spiritual landmark of the city.
