Biographical Record
Abdelkader Chanderli was born in Algiers and possessed a sophisticated cosmopolitan education in law and journalism. In 1956, the FLN leadership dispatched Chanderli to New York to open the clandestine Algerian Information Office, which soon functioned as the official Permanent Mission of the FLN to the United Nations.
With peerless mastery of American media, United Nations procedures, and personal diplomacy, Chanderli cultivated allies across the Afro-Asian bloc and progressive Western circles. His relentless lobbying culminated in historic General Assembly resolutions affirming Algeria's inalienable right to self-determination and territorial integrity.
