Archival Overview
Second Aghlabid Emir (812–817 AD) who consolidated the autonomous dynastic state founded by his father Ibrahim I, maintaining domestic order from the palatial city of Al-Abbasiya.
Biographical Record
Abdallah I succeeded his father Ibrahim I ibn al-Aghlab in 812 AD. Governing from the newly built royal palace city of Al-Abbasiya just outside Kairouan, he focused on establishing civil taxation systems and checking the rebellious tendencies of the Arab jund (military commanders).
His five-year reign provided administrative stability that permitted Kairouan's merchants and scholars to thrive, setting the foundation for the golden age of his brother Ziyadat Allah I.
