Biographical Record
Abd al-Ghani ibn Ismail al-Nabulsi was born in Damascus into an eminent family of scholars originally from Nablus. He mastered Hanafi jurisprudence and joined both the Qadiriyya and Naqshbandiyya Sufi orders, spending seven years in secluded contemplative retreat in his home before emerging as the preeminent intellectual of Ottoman Syria.
Nabulsi wrote over two hundred works spanning legal treatises, commentaries on Ibn Arabi, poetry, and famous travelogues (rihla) detailing his journeys through Lebanon, Egypt, the Hijaz, and Palestine. His celebrated encyclopedic manual on dream interpretation, Ta'tir al-Anam fi Ta'bir al-Manam, remains the most popular text on the subject in the Arab world.
