Archival Overview
Visionary painter from Marrakesh whose mystical, meticulously drafted gouaches merged medieval Islamic miniatures, esoteric dreams, and fantastical hybrid creatures.
Biographical Record
Abbas Saladi grew up near the Jemaa el-Fna square in Marrakesh. Following severe psychological crises in his youth that interrupted his university philosophy studies, he found healing through obsessive, crystalline drawing on paper with delicate ink and watercolor.
His symmetrical universe, peopled by winged beings, mythological fauna, and sacred architecture, was championed by French critic Pierre Gaudibert and showcased at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, cementing his status as one of Morocco's most singular artistic geniuses.
